The American Nightmare - AhmedTarek - 03-20-2007 “Everyone was created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness” these words that were stated in the American Declaration of Independence and have always been the dream that everybody on this filled with misery plant dreamt of, it is what we call “The American Dream”. But obviously the government of the United States of America does not practice what they preach. Spilling blood for oil, having racist regimes as allies, supporting of dictatorships and imprisoning people without a trial contradict with every word they preached. For all these contradictions, the United States of America lost all credibility worldwide, not only among enemies but also among allies.
In the post-soviet world the masses dreamt of a new world, a free one. Specially those who were under the oppression of the soviet supported, totalitarian regimes were waiting for “The American Dream”. This dream turned to be the same old nightmare or even sometimes worse. In what sense does the United States of America support dictators like Mubarak or the dictator kings of the Persian Gulf and help them to stay in position against the will of their own citizens or depending on fake elections and still claim that they support Democracy? People can not believe in the supporters of their oppressors. People will never trust the power that is splinting the regime that torture them in their police stations, and deprive them from even thinking in a way different than this which they are meant to think in, even if this power kept claiming that they are pro-human rights. The United States is an empire that found itself in a unique situation; it is the one and the only one major power in the world, we can even say that it is an exception in history. It appeared like the United States was able to do what ever it wants; it can invade a country and call it liberation. It even can invade two countries in the same time. So, after Afghanistan came Iraq and based on pure lies Mr. Bush launched a War. And then he had to admit in front of the whole world that there were no Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. This made it clear that American Army is there for Oil or let us call it the black gold. Through this war we saw the ugly face of the American Army to the extent that the over use of power against civilians, or scandals of torturing in prisons became everyday news. Only the recalling of the incident that American soldiers raped, killed and then burnt an Iraqi girl makes it clear why the United States lost its credibility. The declaration of human rights considers kidnapping people against their own will and imprisoning them without a fair trial or no trial at all a crime against Humanity. So how can we understand that the main preacher of human rights kidnaps people from the streets of kabul and even the streets of Europe and imprison them against their will in Guantanamo bay for years and years under severe circumstances and without any trial because they are “terrorists”? How can we understand that the biggest democracy on earth is sending prisoners to Egypt to be tortured and “interrogated” because they are “terrorists”? Terrorism is the new elastic term that fits any anti American deed or even thought sometimes, knowing that the same actions if performed by Americans against non Americans is not considered terrorism, and once again the world policeman that claims that it fights for human rights doesn’t have any respect to them what so ever . The united state of America has always been biased concerning the Arab Israeli conflict. They failed completely in convincing the masses that they can play the role of a fair mediator. Allowing the Israeli army and government to expand in Palestinian land, settlements are being built everyday on Arab land and United States of America never objects. Israeli army is killing civilian women, children and men everyday with not only American weapons but also with full American and the American for granted Vito which is enough to hinder any international action against Israel. Israel is even building an apartheid wall on Palestinian land and “Israel has the right to defend itself” Mr. George W Bush said. During the recent Lebanese war, the United States once again gave Israel the right to “defend” it self, and let Israel destroy Lebanon killing hundreds of civilians and injuring thousands and leaving thousands homeless for two soldiers. During this war the United States prevented any chance to cease fire for weeks in order to weaken the Iranian influence in the area. As we mentioned Iran, the recent confrontation between Iran and the United States shows again the American double standers. Iran is not allowed to have peaceful nuclear energy whilst Israel has nuclear weapons and everybody know and no body objects, which remind me of the story of the big elephant in the room that nobody mentions. In conclusion, the United States of America is harvesting the hatred it planted, and complaining of terrorism is like not cleaning your kitchen and complaining of cockroaches. As long as the United States is drunk with power it will have no credibility worldwide. |
