KISS OF DEATH FOR ‘MR. LEBANON’

Rafik Al-Hariri's (the former Lebanese Prime Minister) assassination is clearly the handy-work of the evil trinity: CIA, MOSSAD and the fanatical Christian Phalangists. This troika has worked together before in order to subjugate the Muslims of the region, notably during Lebanon’s savage civil war 1975-1989. Amongst the hundreds of car bombings which became a Lebanese trademark during the 1970’s and 80’s, the 1985 assassination attempt of Shi’ite Cleric Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah the founder and leader of Hizballah bares an uncanny resemblance to this Levantine St. Valentines Day Massacre. NB: The CIA, MOSSAD and Phalangists DID NOT deny responsibility for the Fadlallah assassination attempt which resulted in the deaths of almost a hundred men, women and children.

The killing of Al-Hariri was a prerequisite for the aforementioned trio to further isolate Syria. Furthermore, the death of the nominally Sunni Al-Hariri is being used to gain the support of Lebanese Muslims in order to make the demand for the withdrawal of Syrian troops a popular Lebanese demand rather than just a Christian one.

UNSCR 1559 passed in September 2004 called for the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Lebanon, it is this resolution which is being used as a fig leaf to exert pressure on Damascus. Washington made its real intentions clear when it withdrew its Ambassador from Damascus after the demise of Al-Hariri. Officially there is no evidence linking back to any one suspect, yet the US is still persistent to blame Syria due to its ‘dominion over Lebanon’. Here it is pertinent to state that, historically Lebanon has always been part of Syria and has never existed as an independent entity – until 1920 when the French (in collaboration with the British as part of the nefarious 1916 Sykes-picot agreement) amputated the south western costal areas of ash-Sham (Greater Syria) in order to give the Christians of Syria a majority holding in the area, ironically the French also sliced large parts of Sunni areas i.e. Trablus Sharqeea’ in the north and attached these areas to this fledgling ‘christian state’, thus paradoxically insuring that Lebanon would never have a Christian majority.

Coinciding during the last two weeks was the accusations at Hizballah, with interfering in the Palestinian ‘truce’, funding operations inside Palestine, hostilities towards the Palestinian Authorities including threatening the life of Mahmud Abbass. This has lead to vociferous attacks by the Palestinian Authority, the Zionist-Entity, and the US, with talk of links to Syria and Iran - culminating in a call for the EU to add Hizballah to its list of ‘Terrorist Organisations’. However, it is seen in Lebanon as a political party and is represented in the Lebanese parliament.

Can it be said that the 14th February bombing (which is alleged to have been committed by a previously unknown al-Qaeda affiliate) was carried out coincidentally after the results of the Iraqi elections were announced, thus allowing the Americans to turn their attentions elsewhere? Who really benefited from this car bombing?

Can it be said that Syria which has approximately 15,000 troops in Lebanon, claiming that these troops are there at the request of the Lebanese Government to uphold the security of the country. Would then sabotage their only point of legitimacy by killing a Sunni appointee thus alienating the Lebanese Sunni’s who have traditionally been Syria’s most vociferous supporters?

To conclude, it should not be forgotten that Syria has always featured highly on Washington’s ‘watch-list’. Al-Hariri’s killing has provided primarily the Americans with an all-too convenient premise to concentrate the world’s attention upon Damascus. For the Lebanese the death (Al-Hariri’s) has provided a national rallying cry against Damascus whilst for the Jews any cutting down of Syria is always welcome. Is the quintessentially Lebanese perchant for violence about to return? Lebanon was traditionally seen as a convenient ‘battlefield’ for the middle-east’s problems, Iraq briefly took over that mantle, has Lebanon snatched back its crown of thorns or has it been forced on top of its head? Who has received the thirty pieces of $ilver?
