تحت عنوان ( قيادات المخابرات السورية تم ايفادها الى عواصم خارجية ) كتب جيف ستين في صحيفة الواشنطن بوست مقالا يذكر فيه ان قيادات امنية سورية زارت لندن – باريس – روما – بكين ويحتمل بيونغ يانغ .
ياتي ذلك في خضم التسريبات التي وردت في برقيات ويكيليكس وتفضح ان الرئيس السوري ابدى استعداده لتمييز نفسه وتفريق سوريا عن حماس .
ولم تذكر الصحيفة سبب هذه الزيارات ولكنها نقلت عن صحيفة الكترونية فرنسية متخصصة بقضايا الاستخبارات ( ان الاستخبارات السورية منخرطة بجولات ديبلوماسية مكثفة في الفترة الاخيرة ) .
مدير ادارة امن الدولة اللواء علي مملوك زار لندن في زيارة سرية بتاريخ 16-20 تشرين الثاني / نوفمبر وكان برفقته العميد ثائر العمر رئيس فرع مكافحة الارهاب والعميد حافظ مخلوف رئيس قسم دمشق بالفرع الدخلي والذي يسافر لاول مرة بمهمة رسمية حيث التقوا بنظرائهم من المخابرات البريطانية الذين نجحوا بايجاد تعاون مع السوريين كما فعلت المخابرات الامريكية CIA في قضايا تتعلق بمحاربة القاعدة والارهاب .... كما زار مملوك مكتب المحاماة الشهير ( Matrix Chambers ) الذي تعاقد معه النظام السوري للدفاع عنه في قضية اغتيال الحريري .
ومن بعدها زار مملوك باريس بتاريخ 22 تشرين الثاني / نوفمبر للتحضير لزيارة مرتقبة للاسد .
وكان مملوك قد زار روما قبل ذلك بتاريخ 19 تشرين اول / اكتوبر حيث وقع تفاهما حول مكافحة الارهاب وكان يصحبه في تلك الزيارة نائبه اللواء زهير حمد و مدير محطة التجسس في بروكسل فؤاد فاضل .
وضمن نفس هذه الجهود توجه العميد بسام مرهج ( مدير المكتب العسكري للرئيس ) والذي حل محل العميد محمد سليمان الذي تم اغتياله منذ عامين الى بكين حيث يعتقد انه سيتوجه من هناك الى كوريا الشمالية التي تربطها بسوريا علاقات تعاون في المجال النووي وقد تم تدمير مفاعل يعتمد على المياه الثقيلة في سوريا في ايلول/ سبتمبر 2007
