ليس هناك "ديمقراطية" دون "علمانية"، لأن الشرط الأساسي لوجود "الديمقراطية" هو مبدأ "المساواة" في القانون وأمام القانون، وهذا لا تستطيع أن تؤمّنه إلا "العلمانية".

في غياب "العلمانية" تغيب "المساواة" (بين الأديان)، وفي غياب "المساواة" تتحوّل الديمقراطية إلى "نظام آخر" (ملكية، أرستقراطية، ثيوقراطية ... إلخ). لذلك فالحديث عن "الديمقراطية" دون "العلمانية" هو عبارة عن "طق حنك" ليس إلا، أو في أحسن الأحوال كلمات بعض الغوغاء الذين يحسبون أن "الديمقراطية" هي صناديق اقتراع "وديكتاتورية أغلبية".

"العلمانية" هي "المقدمة الصحيحة للديمقراطية"، لأنها تعني "حياد الدولة الإيجابي" ووقوفها على مسافة واحدة من جميع الأديان. بينما لا تستطيع مثلاً أن تضع ديناً (اليهودية أو المسيحية أو الإسلام) أمام الديمقراطية، لأنك تكون قد "خنقت الديمقراطية" وسحلت جثتها إلى أبد الآبدين. فالديانات، خصوصاً تلك التي يدعونها أصحابها "بالسماوية"، هي "نظريات إقصائية" لا تستطيع أن تضمن "مبدأ المساواة" حتى لو تعشّم فيها أصحابها خيراً. فهي "تمييزية تصنيفية" في جوهرها وليس في عرضها فقط.
