من وجهة نظري "الدينية" فقد علمت أن الأحلام هي التقاء الأرواح في عالم آخر، مما يؤدي إلى هذه الظاهرة. فكما نعلم في الإسلام أن الروح تغادر جسد النائم أثناء نومه إلى عالم آخر، وفي هذا العالم تتلاقى الأرواح كما تتلاقى الأجساد في الواقع مما يؤدي إلى أن يعيش الإنسان الحلم.

في بعض القراءات التي أجريتها حول هذه الظاهرة، تم تفسيرها على أنها انعكاس للحالة النفسية للإنسان، والتي تؤدي إلى نشاط دماغي يولد هذه الأوهام والصور، كما هو الحال في أحلام اليقظة والتي قد تسمى "هلوسة" ... هل الأحلام هي نوع من أنواع هذه الهلوسة؟ أم أنها صور عصبية تجسدُ الحالة النفسية للإنسان؟
