ان ابسط اشكال الحياة هي تلك الخلوقات وحيدة الخلية كالبكتيريا...

و اكثر انواع البكتيريا دراسة و تحيليلا هي البكتيريا القولونيةE.coli اوخريطتها الجينية معروفة بالكامل بالنسبة لنا و لذلك فنحن نستطيع ان نحسب بدقة احتمال الوصول الى التركيبة الجينية الحالية للبكتيريا عبر محض الصدفة...

اذا افترضنا وجود ماكينة "ذكية" تتحقق من كل خطوة في عملية تركيب ال DNA لهذا البكتيريا بسرعة عملية تحقق للتركيب كل ثانية... فان هكذا ماكينة بحاجة الى 10 مرفوعة الى القوة 24,000,000 (اربعة و عشرون مليونا!!) ثانية اي واحد

و لتقدير كم يبلغ هذا الرقم المهول فان عمر الكون بكامله من لحظة نشوئه هو مجرد 10 مرفوعة الى القوة 17 !!!!! اي ان عمر الكون يقارب الصفر بالنسبة الى مقدار الزمن المطلوب ....

و عليه فان الفارق الزمني اللازم للاتمام هذه "الماكينة الذكية" عملها هو 10 مرفوعة الى القوة 24,000,000 ناقص 17 اي 23,99,983 !!!!
