هذه اطول ترجمة لكعب الأحبار وجدتها :

ترجمة كعب الأحبار من تهذيب الكمال في أسماء الرجال للحافظ المزي :
" كعب بن ماتع الحميري أبو إسحاق المعروف بكعب الأحبار ، من آل ذي رعين ، ويقال : من ذي الكلاع ثم من بني ميتم ، وهو من مسلمة أهل الكتاب .
أدرك النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ، واسلم في خلافة أبي بكر الصديق ، ويقال : في خلافة عمر بن الخطاب ، ويقال : أدرك الجاهلية .
روى عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم مرسلا ، وعن صهيب الرومي وعمر بن الخطاب وعائشة أم المؤمنين ، ومات قبلها .
روى عنه الأخنس بن خليف الضبي ، وأسلم مولى عمر بن الخطاب ، وابن امرأته تبيع الحميري ، وجرير بن جابر الخثعمي ، وخالد بن معدان ، وروح بن زنباع ، وأبو المخارق زهير بن سالم السلولي ، وسعيد بن المسيب ،وشريح بن عبيد ولم يدركه ، وعبد الله بن رباح الأنصاري ، وعبد الله بن الزبيربن العوام ، وعبد الله بن ضمرة السلولي ، وعبد الله بن عباس ،وعبد الله بن عمر بن الخطاب ، وعبد الله بن غيلان ، وعبد الرحمان بن مغيث ، وعطاء بن أبي رباح ، ومالك بن أبي عامر الأصبحي ، ومحمد بن عبد الله بن صيفي ، ومطرف بن عبد الله بن الشخير ، ومعاوية بن أبي سفيان ، ومغيث بن بن سمي ، وممطور أبوسلام الأسود ، وهمام شيخ لعبد الغفور الواسطي ، ويزيد بن خمير ، ويزيد بن قوذر ، وأبو إبراهيم الردماني وأبو رافع الصائغ وأبو سعيد الحبراني ، وأبو مروان الأسلمي والد عطاء بن أبي مروان ، وأبو هريرة ، وابم مواهن .
وقال سعيد بن أبي صدقة : نبئت أن كعبا قال في قوله تعالى : { يا أخت هارون }
ذكره محمد بن سعد في الطبقة من أهل الشام بعد أصحاب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ، قال : هم من حمير من آل ذي رعين ، وكان على دين يهود ، فأسلم ، وقدم المدينة ، ثم خرج إلى الشام ، فسكن حمص حتى توفي سنة ثنتين وثلاثين في خلافة عثمان بن عفان .
وقال أبو مسهر : كان سعيد بن عبد العزيز يقول : أسلم كعب على يدي أبي بكر . وقال أبو مسهر : والذي حدثني غير واحد أن كعبا من اليمن من ذي الكلاع ثم من بني ميتم ، وكان مسكنه في أرض اليمن ، فقدم علة أبي بكر الصديق بعد وفاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ثم أتى أرض الشام ، فمات به .
وقال علي بن زيد بن جدعان عن سعيد بن المسيب : قال العباس لكعب : ما منعك أن تسلم على عهد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وأبي بكرحتى أسلمت الآن على عهد عمر ؟ فقال كعب : إن أبي كتب لي كتابا من التوراة ودفعه إلي ، وقال : اعمل بهذا . وختم على سائر كتبه ، وأخذ علي بحق الوالد ألا أفض الخاتم ، فلما كان الآن ورأيت الإسلام يظهر ولم بأسا قالت لي نفسي : لعل أباك غيب عنك علما كتمك ، فلو قرأته . ففضضت الخاتم ، فقرأته ، فوجدت في صفة محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وأمته ، فجئت الآن مسلما . فوالى العباس .
وقال محمد بن سعد : قالوا : وذكر أبو الدرداء كعبا ، فقال : إن عند ابن الحميرية لعلما كثيرا .
